The day

"How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives."

It’s happening all too fast.

Growing up.

University.

18.

Life.

Life rushes past and I hold my breath.  I try not to sink.  I sprint faster.  Breathe.  Sprint again.  Breathe.  When can life switch from sprint to marathon?  Paced and steady.  Slowly, life is winding down.  I just finished this semester at university.  Switching to marathon mode.

'How to do nothing' by Kinfolk
life is pieces of the ocean, drops of raspberries, a touch from the sun, a breath of longing, sighs from the wind.  life is warped and tangled but real, honest and true.

"Stop comparing where you’re at with where everyone else is. It doesn’t move you farther ahead, improve your situation, or help you find peace. It just feeds your shame, fuels your feelings of inadequacy, and ultimately, it keeps you stuck. The reality is that there is no one correct path in life.  Everyone has their own unique journey" Daniell Koepke

turn my eyes from looking at worthless things and give me life in your ways.
psalm 119:37

In other words, I've just finished this semester at university (cue clapping and dancing); it's almost my birthday; I lacked inspiration to post so I wrote a list of discombobulated thoughts and threw in a few photographs I've taken; I'm also really inspired by the idea that how we spend our days is how we spend our lives.

How are you doing?
xx

  1. All of your photography is stunning. Your blog is so simple and beautiful-- I absolutely love it!

I'm trying to do a bit of photography myself, and I was just wondering whether you'd mind giving me some starting tips on my blog post over here. Thank you so much! xx

    1. Thank you, Arushee! You're so kind. :)

That's great that your getting into photography! Here are a few tips for beginning...

-- If you can, shoot in manual mode and edit in RAW. Shooting in manual will allow you, to some extent, to tailor the lighting, grain, exposure, etc. RAW is so much easier to edit in -- it's a much higher quality image, so the edit won't look 'artificial'.

-- Take too many photographs! When I first started photography, I had a point-and-shoot and all I wanted to do was take photographs of the leaves, flowers and books; and I loved creating bokeh (a blurred background) in my photos. Looking back at those photos, I can say they weren't great but they definitely helped me get to where I am today! ''Practice makes perfect.'' Every little bit of practice and effort I put into taking photographs built me up to where I am today.

-- Follow other photographers you love; what is that they do that makes their work beautiful? Where do they place their subjects? Why are their photographs so appealing? Do they edit a certain way? Is the lighting particularly dark or light? Don't 'copy' them, be inspired by them. Then you can begin to find your niche, your style, the way *you* love your photographs to be. <3

Those are just a few tips on beginning -- if you have any more questions feel free to ask!

      Thanks for stopping by. :)

      Much love,

      Acacia xx

  2. I love this and I absolutely love that quote by Daniell Koepke. How we spend our day is how we spend our life, so I guess I should start living in each day a little more. Congrats and happy birthday!!

  4. Well, I've died my hair the red I have always wanted to, gotten back to blogging, (h-anecdotes.blogspt.com/) and have taken my camera out again. Dealing with some things, but that's life. All in all, I'm doing well, thanks for asking. :) " turn my eyes from looking at worthless things and give me life in your ways.

  5. Congrats on finishing your first semester in college! I'm so happy for you! (:
I've been doing great. Entering second quarter of ninth grade, and so far so good. I finally got a DSLR (a professional one but not a new one because those are dang expensive) and I'm trying to figure out all the controls and whatnot. :P
